New Retirement Planning Strategies, 7 p.m. at the Nevins Memorial Library, 305 Broadway, Methuen. Presented by the Society for Financial Awareness (SOFA), a 501(c)3 not-for-profit educational speakers bureau. Comprised of various professionals (financial, tax, real estate, mortgage, wellness, and estate planning) SOFA provides overall financial education to various individuals and organizations. Through workshops and seminars, SOFA introduces keys to a successful and wealthy future. Workshops also help people to become aware of risk management, investment opportunities, and tax savings. Free Eight-week Workshop: “A Matter Of Balance,” 1 to 3 p.m. at the Methuen Senior Activity Center, 77 Lowell St. This program is designed to manage falls and increase activity levels. Registration is requested. 978-946-1260.

Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 17

Family to Family Program, 6:30 to 9 p.m. in Methuen. The free 12-week course is open to loved ones of persons who are affected with a serious mental illness. The course is taught by two trained volunteer family members from NAMI Massachusetts. Includes information on specific serious mental illnesses, coping skills for handling crisis and relapse, listening and communication skills, problem solving and limit setting, rehabilitation, empathy skills, self-care, new and older medications, community support, fighting stigma and discrimination.
