The American College of History and Legal Studies and the Massachusetts School of Law will host a free seminar, "McClellan Takes Richmond! Really?" on Saturday, June 16, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the seminar at will take place at the Massachusetts School of Law at 500 Federal St., in Andover, Mass.
The free seminar will be led by professor Michael B. Chesson, founding professor and dean at the American College of History and Legal Studies. Chesson is the author of four books about the Civil War, and was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in history.
This event, featuring a roundtable discussion, marks the 150th anniversary of "the grand campaign," Gen. George McClellan's mammoth offensive to capture Richmond in the spring of 1862. A quarter-million men took part, more than in any other Civil War operation. One-quarter were dead, wounded or missing when it ended.
