KINGSTON — Longtime Town Clerk Bettie Ouellette is being challenged by Melissa Fowler for a three-year term as town clerk.

Name: Melissa J. Fowler

Age: 42

Incumbent: No

Public service experience: None

What is the single most important issue facing the town clerk? Moving into the 21st century with little to no expense to the townspeople. Residents should have the choice of registering vehicles by mail.

Name: Bettie C. Ouellette

Age: 80

Incumbent: Yes

Public service experience: 38 years as town clerk, 48 years as tax collector (positions combined in 1988)

What is the single most important issue facing the town clerk? I'm constantly looking for ways to make the (vehicle registration) process better, but not by charging more to do it through the mail.
