There is a single three-year term open for a councilor-at-large on the Derry Town Council. Incumbent Kevin Coyle is running against Joel Olbricht and Alfred Garron.

Name: Kevin Coyle

Age: 44

Occupation: Attorney for the Londonderry Police Department

Incumbent: Yes

Experience: Three-year term on Town Council

What is the single most important issue facing the Derry Town Council? The most pressing issue is the loss of $1.8 million in state funding, which could mean the loss of up to 20 employees.

Name: Alfred Garron

Age: 76

Occupation: Retired

Incumbent: No

Experience: None

What is the single most important issue facing the Derry Town Council? I think personally it's the $7.5 million shortfall coming from the state in education.

Name: Joel Olbricht

Age: 52

Occupation: Certified public accountant and business owner

Incumbent: No

Experience: Two terms on School Board

What is the single most important issue facing the Derry Town Council? The budget. Two things need a lot of attention in 2009 to keep the property taxes from growing; responsible budget cuts and serious economic development to attract new businesses.

There is one three-year seat open on the Derry Town Council District 1, with two candidates.

Name: Maureen Heard

Age: 47

Occupation: Communications manager, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems

Incumbent: No

Experience: None

What is the single most important issue facing the Derry Town Council? Derry's citizens are disillusioned with the political process. They deserve aggressive representation without rancor, my proven problem-solving capabilities and personal courage on their side.

Name: Janet Fairbanks

Age: 50

Occupation: Bookkeeper

Incumbent: Yes

Experience: Three-year term on Town Council

What is the single most important issue facing the Derry Town Council? This year, it's the economic crisis which is being felt not only locally, but globally. That will mean tough economic decisions at budget time.
