METHUEN — It wasn’t technically a bank robbery. It was more like a robbery at a bank.
Methuen police tracked down a man yesterday, whom they believe pushed a woman over at a TD Bank branch and ran off with her purse, by using his own cell phone against him.
They arrested Derek Rodriguez, 33, of 7 Arnold St., apartment 1, on Broadway near Center Street and charged him with unarmed robbery, assault with intent to maim, receiving stolen property over $250 and assault and battery.
He is being held on $10,000 cash bail.
Police responded to the TD Bank branch at 547 Broadway for a report of a domestic incident. A woman told police she was assaulted and robbed of her purse as she was getting into her car after leaving the bank. She said Rodriguez threw her to the ground and, after a struggle, bit her hand to take her purse.
Police said Rodriguez left in a blue 2003 Saab toward Salem, N.H. Officer sent a signal to his cell phone to determine his location, found him and arrested him.
