Haverhill in a Minute: Thrift shop seeks volunteers

Ruth’s House, a nonprofit thrift store at 111 Lafayette Square, is seeking volunteers to help in its thrift store/clothing pantry.

Also needed are donations of new socks and underwear of all sizes. You may also drop off donations for the Sacred Hearts food pantry. All donations are tax deductible and donors will be issued receipts for their gifts. Donations may be dropped off on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The thrift store is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Council on Aging plans Halloween party, dance

The Council on Aging will hold its annual Halloween party and dance Oct. 31 at 12:30 p.m. at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St.

The event will include a horribles parade, prizes and goodies. Costumes are optional. Lunch will include pizza, salad, cookies and coffee. Tickets are $5 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets call 978-374-2390 and speak with Kathy Bresnahan, ext. 11, or Rita LaBella, ext 16.

Pentucket Kiwanis charity auction

Nov. 2

The Pentucket Kiwanis Club will hold its fourth annual “Let’s Make A Difference” Charity Auction, Wine and Beer tasting Nov. 2 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Maria’s Family Restaurant, 81 Essex St.

Tickets are $35 and can be purchased by calling Nancy McKenna at 978-521-0445 or Nate Webster at 978-204-4692. A wide selection of wines from Sicily, beer tasting, a carving station, desert station and a selection of epicurean cheeses will be available. Silent auctions are until 9 p.m. and a live auction with WHAV’s Nate Webster will cap off the event. All proceeds will benefit many community programs, projects and charities in Greater Haverhill.
