Community Action. Inc. is offering a $1,000 Goldman Scholarship to an area resident who is enrolled in a full-time college or other post-secondary program.
Due to a delay in posting the scholarship application process, Community Action has extended the deadline to March 28. The scholarship is named after former executive director Gerald Goldman. Each year, Community Action presents three $1,000 scholarships in his name. College students from Haverhill, Amesbury, Newburyport, Salisbury, Groveland, Georgetown, Boxford, Rowley, Newbury, West Newbury, and Merrimac are eligible.
Applicants must supply proof of their participation in a full-time college program. They must also provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher or professor, and complete a 200- to 500-word essay on how their post-secondary education experience will help them enhance the principles embraced by Gerald Goldman in their own lives or how continuing education will help them make a difference in their communities. The final selection of the scholarship winner will be decided by Goldman’s children and announced in April.
Applications are available at the Community Action Inc. main office, 145 Essex St. Completed applications are due by March 28. Applications are also available online at www.communityactioninc.org. More information is available from Marge Hooper at 978-373-1971.
