Refuge to host free bird photography presentation on Saturday

NEWBURYPORT — Bird and nature photographer and author Peter Christoph will present a free program about photographing birds in the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge visitor center on Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m.

In his program Snowy Owls and More — the Epic Adventures of a Massachusetts Bird Photographer, Christoph will present a narrated slideshow featuring his favorite bird photographs, all of which were taken in Massachusetts, where he lives.

He shares stories of his photographic adventures, the techniques he uses to capture his images, and some of his favorite places for taking photos of birds in their natural habitat.

Christoph, a resident of Lancaster, has given presentations for Massachusetts Audubon, the Appalachian Mountain Club, and numerous schools, libraries and camera clubs across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

His photographs have appeared in national magazines, including Professional Photographer, and Photoshop User, and have been featured several times on the cover of New England Printer and Publisher magazine.

The March 8 program is being presented in association with the Photographic Society of Parker River National Wildlife Refuge. The Society, which is based at the refuge, welcomes anyone who has an interest in nature, wildlife, and/or photography — whether they are a total novice or earn a living by taking pictures.

The club meets every month, generally on the second Saturday afternoon. Club activities include special presentations, slide shows (of members’ work), intra-club mentoring and training, photo shoots, on-line photo sharing, and involvement in the refuge’s various photography-related programs, events, and outreach activities.

Preregistration is not required to attend this program. Please contact the refuge at (978) 465-5753 for more information about the Photographic Society.
