The District Parent Council has launched its 23rd annual Write Away!! Contest.
The event promotes and celebrates creative writing by students in Haverhill public schools. More than 2,500 entries are expected this year. Students can submit their entries (one per student) from school or from home. Contest entries are ranked by a panel of judges that includes elected officials, college administrators, librarians, retired teachers and authors.
Organizers will again be awarding two Maureen White Writing Excellence Awards to the two first-place high school winners. Cash prizes, gift certificates and certificates of achievement will be presented to the authors of the 55 winning entries at the Annual Write Away!! Awards Ceremony, to be held in the Haverhill High School auditorium on May 15 at 7 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The contest is run by volunteers and is a donation-funded event.
