Winnekenni Castle will present a free Father’s Day concert on Sunday at 2 p.m. featuring two bands. The Smoothies, a duo of Lee Lewis Machuca and Matt Davis will present a stylish combination of vocals and horns with a classy, easy-going, smooth, rich and melodic sound.
The Smoothies will perform jazz standards, classic R&B and pop. Mr. Lee and The Chanel Girl Group will bring you back to the sweet sounds of the ‘50s, ‘60s and beyond, including an exciting “Supremes” tribute along with an R&B, Motown, Doo Wop and Soul Review. Students to perform ‘Apostrophe’s’
Students at the Whittier Middle School will perform in a school play titled “Apostrophe’s” on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m. The play is directed by Whittier musical specialist Gail Pellegrino. This event is open to the public and admission is $3 for adults and $2 for students.
Written by Bradley Hayward, and produced in special arrangement with Theatrefolk (Theatrefolk.com), this one-act comedy that takes place in a school building asks if you are amazed at “how many apostrophe’s s’ome people manage to fi’t into s’entence’s.” Whittier Middle School is at 256 Concord St.
Dog biscuits to benefit rescue group
GROVELAND — As part of St. James Groveland’s participation in the Big Hearted Families Project (www.bigheartedfamilies.org), a group of parishioners will be selling dog biscuits and people treats they baked on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the West Newbury Food Mart. Proceeds will be donated to Sweet Paws Rescue, a shelter-less rescue that works through a network of foster and adoptive families (www.sweetpawsrescue.org). For more information call 978-373-1270.
