Esperanza Academy gets $12,500 for soccer program

LAWRENCE — Esperanza Academy received a $12,500 grant from the he U.S. Soccer Foundation to support its soccer program.

Esperanza Academy launched its first competitive and intramural soccer program last year. The all-girls independent, tuition-free middle school was one of 37 non-profit organizations which received a total of more than $1.8 million to help youth in undeserved communities across the nation.

“We are thrilled to receive the support of the U.S. Soccer Foundation for a second year in a row,” said Christopher H. Wilson, head of school at Esperanza Academy. “Their endorsement means we can continue to develop and improve our soccer program and provide our students with a healthy outlet that will help them build confidence, sportsmanship, and other important life skills.”

School candidates can file soon in Salem

SALEM, N.H. — Salem Superintendent of Schools Michael W. Delahanty recently announced the dates for filing for the election of school officials for the Salem School District.

Candidates for the position of school board member may file beginning Wednesday, Jan. 22, through Friday, Jan. 31. A candidate must be a registered voter in Salem and may obtain sign up papers at the Superintendent of Schools office, 38 Geremonty Drive, any workday, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or from Kelly Bryant, School District Clerk.

There is one three-year school board position to be filled at the town election of Tuesday, March 11. The incumbent school board member whose term expires is Bernard H. Campbell.

The election of the school board member is by a non-partisan ballot at the same voting time and places as town elections.

Applications for an absentee ballot may be obtained from the Town Clerk’s office at the Town Office, 33 Geremonty Drive.

Chess club starts on Sunday

HAMPSTEAD — The Hampstead Civic Club Chess Club starts Sunday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the club building next to Town Hall.
