Special ed. parent council electing new officers
ANDOVER — A special election to replace seven board members of the 10-member Andover Special Education Parent Advisory Council will be held Wednesday, April 2, at 7 p.m. in the third-floor conference room of the School Administration Building, 36 Bartlet St.
Six members resigned in protest earlier this month, citing the inability to work with a new group of parents that has become more involved with the group. Their resignations followed the departure of one of the board’s co-presidents about a month earlier.
Anyone interested in addressing the special educational needs of Andover children in Andover is invited to seek nomination to one of the openings, which will be taken from the floor. The positions will be filled on an interim basis until the next voting election, which will occur in May.
Duties of board officers include “advising the School Committee on matters that pertain to education and safety of students with disabilities and meeting regularly with school officials to participate in the planning, development and evaluation” of special education programs.
Meanwhile, a survey of the town’s special education program is now under way. Visit the SEPAC website, www.andoversepac.org, for a link.
