Woman seriously hurt by hit-run driver in Haverhill

HAVERHILL — Police are seeking a hit-and-run driver who struck a woman pedestrian early yesterday.

Police said the 40-year-old woman was crossing the street near 240 Essex St. just after 1 a.m. when she was hit by a car traveling north on Essex Street.

The driver failed to stop and continued into Lafayette Square, witnesses told police.

The woman, who was not named as of last night, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and was taken to a Boston hospital.

The witnesses described the car as a silver or gray, two-door Honda Civic, or similar model. The car sustained front-end damage.
