Freemasons hold open house Saturday

Annually sponsored by the league, the event is open to all candidates on the May 5 annual election ballot, whether or not they are in contested races. Every candidate will receive a mailed invitation to attend, with an outline of how the forum will be run, and will be asked to respond to Ruth Race, the presenter of the evening.

Academic Bowl tournament concludes

The Haverhill Public Schools 29th annual Academic Bowl Tournament was held April 7 and 8 and will conclude with a final meet on April 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Haverhill High School auditorium.

Parents, students, relatives and members of the community are invited.

Walk to prevent child abuse April 19

The city's youth organizations — Girls Inc., the YWCA and YMCA, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, and the Haverhill High School Excel Club — will come together on April 19 to support the Haverhill Exchange Club's efforts to bring attention to and prevent child abuse.

The two-mile "There's No Excuse for Child Abuse" walkathon begins and ends at GAR Park. Check-in is at 9:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 10:15 a.m. Registration fee is $5.

Premier sponsor is Align Credit Union. The 99 Restaurant & Pub in Haverhill will provide a free cookout for participants that will include hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments. Other sponsors are the Boys & Girls Club, ServPro of Haverhill, the Haverhill School Department and Police Department. Music is by DJ Ron Carpenito. The first 150 people to register will receive a free backpack from Align Credit Union and a water bottle from the Boys & Girls Club.
