Groveland votes May 5

Four running for one selectman's seat

GROVELAND — When voters in Groveland head to the polls on May 5, they will be asked to vote for a number of town seats, including for the Housing Authority, Light Commissioner, and Selectmen, which have multiple candidates seeking one available seat each.

The most talked about race has to be the Selectmen race. Don Greaney decided not to run this year, so that brought out five candidates, with one dropping out. The League of Women Voters of Greater Haverhill will host Candidates’ Night on April 30 from 7 to 9:15 p.m. in Town Hall.

Voters will also face a special ballot question that if approved would expand the Board of Selectmen from three members to five. If the question passes, voters in Groveland would have their first opportunity during the town’s annual election in 2015 to vote for one additional Selectman for a two year term and one additional Selectman for a three year term.

This initiative to expand the Board of Selectmen appeared as Article 17 on Groveland’s 2013 annual Town Meeting Warrant. Article 17 was approved by a majority vote of Town Meeting on April 29, 2013.

Polls in Groveland will be open May 5 from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
