Veterans Day Parade slated for Nov. 11

The city’s annual Veterans Day Parade is Nov. 11, a Sunday.

Organizers said they want to bring to the public’s attention that the event is on a Sunday, which is unusual. Because Veterans Day falls on that day, the parade will happen then too, they said.

The parade will form at 10 a.m. in front of VFW Post 29 on Kenoza Avenue. The march will begin at 10:30 a.m. and proceed to Monument Square, and then down Main Street to the Global Peace Monument on Ginty Boulevard. There, services will be held. The event will end after the services.

A buffet luncheon will be held after the services at the American Legion Farm, 1314 Main St.

Free hockey clinic

set for tomorrow

Kids can try hockey for free tomorrow at Haverhill’s ice rink.

Greater Haverhill-Pentucket Youth Hockey (HP Thunder) invites boys and girls ages 4 to 9 to a “Try Hockey for Free” clinic tomorrow from 10 a.m. to noon at the Veterans Memorial Skating Rink, located behind Haverhill High School.

The event is part of Come Play Hockey Month. This program, designed to provide youth hockey associations a national platform to introduce new kids to the sport, is a joint effort between USA Hockey, the National Hockey League and NHL member clubs. With Total Hockey and Liberty Mutual Responsible Sports, the official sponsors of Try Hockey For Free Day, USA Hockey has 500 locations offering kids this unique opportunity.

As an added bonus, Merrimack College is providing free tickets (to an upcoming game) to the first 50 kids who register and then participate on the ice during tomorrow’s session. Families may register their children online at tryhockeyforfree.com or call Frank Barrett at 978-510-1563.
