HAVERHILL — A two-alarm fire has temporarily closed Lucky Corner at 1155 Main St.
Bill Lee, son-in-law of Richard Chin, owner of the property, said the popular restaurant will "definitely reopen." Lee said the Chinese food restaurant will be back in business within two months.
"This is not going to hold us back," he said.
The fire started about 11 a.m. yesterday in the kitchen, possibly from a buildup of grease, Lee said.
Firefighters contained the fire before it did much damage, but they had to clear snow from a nearby hydrant before they could hook up hoses.
Part of Main Street, which is Route 125, had to be shut down during the fire. Northbound traffic was detoured to Rosemont Street, while vehicles headed in the opposite direction were directed to Merrill Avenue.
Workers were at the restaurant yesterday afternoon cleaning up from the fire. Lee said part of the roof will likely have to be rebuilt.
"We will have to go through our inspections again," he said.
The restaurant is near the Plaistow and Atkinson lines.
