---- — HAVERHILL — David Prescott of Haverhill, a retired police officer and the husband of former City Councilwoman Diane Boulanger Prescott, said he plans to take out papers to run for a seat on Haverhill’s School Committee.

Prescott said he will begin attending School Committee meetings in a few weeks.

“I have some ideas on MCAS that go beyond tutoring to the classroom setup in the schools each day,” he said, noting that he’s been overseeing the schooling of their three children since his wife Diane, a teacher in Haverhill’s school system, began working on her doctorate degree. “I know a lot of things can be done right in the school building during the day just from my watching my own kids and their daily activities and groupings.”

As a retired police officer, Prescott said he will focus on school safety.

“If someone wants to get in they will get in, I learned that as a cop,” he said. “The change needs to come from within the school buildings and the parents I have spoke to are in agreement.”

“I am entering this race with a lot of thought and research and knowledge of all phases of the education cycle,” he said.
