Latest in series of water main breaks in Haverhll closes NECC campus

HAVERHILL — The Haverhill campus of Northern Essex Community College is closed due to a water main break — the latest in a series of such breaks to hit the city.

The campus will reopen tomorrow at noon. Classes begin Jan. 23, so students will not miss time due to the break.

Robert Ward, director of the city's water and sewer departments, said the break occurred today in an underground pipe that runs from Kenoza Street (behind the campus) and onto the campus property. Ward said his department was notified of the break at 2:20 p.m. and that a work crew was sent to the campus to shut down the line so repairs can begin.

Ward said a work crew will be making repairs this evening. The cause of the break was unknown at the time of this report.

A complete report will appear in tomorrow's Eagle-Tribune.
