HAVERHILL - Investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office are at the scene of a reported fatality at the upscale Village at Brickett Hill condominium complex off Northern Avenue.
There was heavy damage to the rear of 42 Brickett Hill Circle where neighbors said a woman rented the 2-story unit and lived there with two children.
Police and fire officials were not releasing any details. Investigators, some with cameras, were walking in and out of the unit. Neither state nor Haverhill officials would comment, nor confirm that there is a fatality.
The fire was reported there at 12:45 p.m. Crews reported knocking the fire down shortly afterwards.
At least two windows appeared to be smashed. There was clothing hanging from a second-floor window.
Jennifer Mieth, spokeswoman for State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan, said investigatirs were responding to te report of a fatal fire, but did not know if the deceased person was a man or woman or the age.
A fatal fire occurred in Gloucester this weekend. Coan said that death was the 7th fire fatality already this year.
