HAVERHILL — Authorities have released the name of the woman who died in a fire at The Village at Brickett Hill on Monday but said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Stephen O’Connell, spokesman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, said the victim has been identified as Elizabeth Morgan, 45, of 41 Brickett Hill Circle. A positive identification was made by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, O’Connell said.
According to the state fire marshal’s office, a determination of the cause of the fire has not yet been made, although the fire is not being considered suspicious in nature.
The fire broke out about 11:30 a.m. in a townhouse apartment at The Village at Brickett Hill off North Avenue.
Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman for state Fire Marshal Stephen Coan, said the investigation into the cause of the fatal fire is still ongoing.
According to Coan’s office, Monday’s fire in Haverhill was the eighth Massachusetts fire death so far in 2013, in seven fires. State fire officials are urging the public to use extreme caution, and as a first line of defense to have working smoke alarms in your home.
Mieth said it is important to have a practiced home escape plan to take advantage of precious minutes to escape safely, and practice good fire prevention around heating, electrical, cooking and smoking.
