Suitcase left at Haverhill bus station prompts bomb squad response

HAVERHILL — Police have cordoned off an area around the bus station at 12 Washington Square after someone noticed an unattended, hard-shelled suitcase at the station.

Police suspect it may be a bomb and have called in the State Police bomb squad.

The black suitcase was first noticed at about 6:50 a.m.

The case, which is on rollers, is about 2 feet tall, 18 inches thick, with a combination lock.

It is unlatched at one end.

"We are treating it as a bomb threat," said Haverhill police Lt. John Rogers.
