Pasta Fagioli contest is Saturday

The Victor Emanuel Lodge, Sons of Italy, will hold its annual Pasta Fagioli contest on Saturday and the public is invited to be the judges.

The contest is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $5 for all the Pasta Fagioli you can eat. First, second and third place winners will be determined by popular vote. You can vote for the most creative and delicious Pasta e Fagioli, which in English means “Pasta and Beans.”

This culinary dish, often referred to as “pasta fazool,” was popular with many local Italian families, providing a healthy yet low-cost meal.

Contestants are asked to bring their Pasta Fagioli to the lodge at 124 Washington St. by 10 a.m. For more information contact Carmine LoConte at 978-373-1447 or Michael Schroth at 978-376-5492.

Bella Buildings Walk is tomorrow

As part of this weekend’s Essex National Heritage Trails & Sails events, local Historian Thomas Spitalere will lead a Bella Buildings Walk tomorrow, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Sons of Italy, 124 Washington St.

Participants are encouraged to wear walking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. If it rains, the event will move indoors for a lecture about Italian heritage. For more information, contact Thomas Spitalere at 978-376-2807.

More information about Trails & Sails events is available online at www.essexheritage.org.
