Couple nabbed in car breaks, using stolen credit cards

Charges include using stolen credit cards

GROVELAND — Police nabbed a couple for a recent rash of car breaks in town, and while executing the arrest, found a number of items in their apartment bought with credit cards stolen out of the vehicles.

Andrew Jackson, 30, and Melinda Sybert, 23, both of Apt. 20C Manor Drive, were arrested Tuesday night in their apartment, police Chief Robert Kirmelewicz said.

Kirmelewicz said police were executing a Haverhill police search warrant charging the couple with larceny, identity fraud, forgery and receiving stolen property when Officer James Morton spotted the goods bought with stolen cards.

Jackson was already a suspect in about a half-dozen car breaks in town, Kirmelewicz said. He said Morton had been investigating Jackson and had surveillance video from one of the stores where Jackson was using the credit cards to buy things.

Haverhill police wanted Jackson and Sybert for using the stolen credit cards at the two CVS stores, 425 Lowell Ave. and 259 Main St., and K's Citgo on Lincoln Avenue, on Dec. 13, according to Haverhill police Capt. Alan Ratte.

"It was definitely some good, old-fashioned police work that led to these arrests and charges," Kirmelewicz said of Morton's investigation.

Kirmelewicz did not have a total value on the items found in the apartment, but said both Jackson and Sybert are facing additional charges.

Jackson was charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime into a motor vehicle, breaking and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony, malicious destruction of property over $250, and receiving stolen property.

Sybert was charged with receiving stolen property over $250.
