Boys & Girls Club to hold its first golf tournament

The Greater Haverhill Boys & Girls Club will host its first golf tournament fundraiser Aug. 10, at Haverhill Country Club.

Lunch and the use of the driving range are from noon to 1 p.m., immediately followed by a shotgun start. Foursomes are welcome.

The fee is $175 per person and includes lunch, greens fees, cart, prizes and dinner.

The winning team will be presented with the club's Norman Gerson Cup.

Dinner is at 6 p.m., during which the club will honor Pentucket Bank CEO Ken Smith for his years of support. Dinner tickets are available at $75 each.

To register for the tournament, or to purchase dinner tickets, call club director Brian Theirrien at 978-374-6171. Money raised through the tournament will support the club's after-school programs for youth.

60th class reunion planned for Oct. 3

The Haverhill High and Trade schools' classes of 1949 will celebrate their 60-year reunion on Oct. 3, at Roma Restaurant, 29 Middlesex St., Bradford. The reunion committee has received an excellent response to its request for contributions to the class of 1949 Book Fund at Haverhill Public Library. The committee hopes that the contributions made this year will surpass those made in prior years.

Haverhill Rocks 2009 Battle of the Bands

Bands still have time to register for Haverhill Rocks 2009 Battle of the Bands. Registrations will be accepted until June 25. Visit www.HaverhillRocks.com.

Bands' recordings at Haverhill Community Television began this week.

Performances will be broadcast on HCTV beginning in July. Viewers can log on to www.HaverhillRocks.com to vote for their favorite band. The top eight bands will perform at Winnekenni Castle on Aug. 22, opening up for a national recording act to be announced.

The winning band receives a $1,000 check, courtesy of an anonymous supporter of the arts in Haverhill, and the production of a music video donated by ABE Mulitmedia LLC. Haverhill Rocks 2009 is presented by Winnekenni Castle, the Haverhill Rocks Committee, Trinity EMS, the city of Haverhill and HCTV. Special $5 pre-release tickets are available for a limited time and can be purchased at www.HaverhillRocks.com.

Ruth's House in need of children's clothing

Ruth's House, a nonprofit, non-denominational thrift store at 30 Lafayette Square in Haverhill, is in need of infant clothing, especially infants to 24 months, as well as summer clothing for boys and girls, all sizes, pots, pans, dishes and household items.

Winter clothing is not being accepted at this time.

All donations are tax-deductible and donors will be issued receipts for their gifts.

Donations may be dropped off on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. You also may drop off donations for the food pantry at Sacred Hearts.

Store hours are: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Closed on Sundays and Mondays. For details, call 978-521-5575.

White elephant sale to be held this Saturday

Residents of the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center in Haverhill will host their annual white elephant sale on Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is invited. Proceeds will benefit the Resident Activity Fund. If you would like to rent table space, call Jean Diamontopoulos at 978-373-1747, ext. 228.

Church to hold community picnic

Trinity Episcopal Church invites the public to a community picnic June 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Guests will have an opportunity to meet the artist and view the church's Soles of Haverhill Shoe, titled "Haverhill Music Through the Decades."

Local artist Alan Pearsall has created a history of Haverhill music on a fiberglass 5-foot woman's high-top shoe form that will be displayed at events throughout the summer, but will first be on display at Trinity.

The event will include hot dogs, face painting, balloons, music and more. Trinity Episcopal Church is at 26 White St. in Haverhill. Call 978-372-4244.
