HAVERHILL — Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a car they said hit a 13-year-old boy while he was crossing South Main Street in front of the Bradford Fire Station.
The collision, which happened Oct. 11 about 6:30 p.m., caused injuries to the boy that included bruises, scrapes and a concussion, according to his parents.
Police said they plan to charge the driver with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury.
Police said the boy and a friend who was with him described the car as a small blue or black car, possibly a four-door vehicle, with Massachusetts plates. They said the driver was a blond woman in her 20s who wore glasses. The boy told police that after he was hit, the woman stopped, told him, “I didn’t even see you,” and then drove off.
Police Lt. Robert Pistone said Patrolman Christopher Pagliuca is investigating the accident and expects that with the help of the public the driver will be found.
“It’s possible this driver may have told someone about it and maybe that person will come forward,” Pistone said.

Louis Stuart of Bradford said his son, Zachery Hailson, an eighth-grader at Hunking Middle School, was walking to his home on Germain Avenue with a friend after stopping at Ari’s Pizza. Stuart said his son’s friend had already crossed the street on his electric scooter and that his son was still in the crosswalk. Stuart said he was about half way across the street when a car heading into town drove through a red light, crossed the yellow center lines and hit him.
Stuart said his son was struck from behind and thrown onto the hood of the car. No one stopped to help, he said. He said his son’s friend called his wife, Leigh Stuart, who rushed to the scene and found her son sitting on the side of the road near the fire station. Leigh Stuart said she drove her son to the hospital.
“We have no idea why the driver did this,” Leigh Stuart said. “We hope that someone saw what happened and that police will find the driver. We don’t want to see anything like this happen again. It’s disturbing to think that someone would just drive away like this.”
Stuart said his son was taken to the emergency room at Merrimack Valley Hospital, where he was treated for a concussion, whiplash, scrapes, bruises and strained ligaments in his right leg.
Leigh Stuart said her son’s injuries caused him to miss two days of school and that he was on crutches for about a week.
