National Night Out slated for Tuesday

The Haverhill Police Department invites people of all ages to a free National Night Out celebration on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Swasey Field on Blaisdell Street. Police officers will be serving free hamburgers and hot-dogs as well as free popcorn and soft drinks. Activities, which are offered at no charge will include the police department’s DJ Al, face painting, bounce houses, assorted carnival games, animal balloons and clown entertainment. There will also be a child’s car seat check point where a certified installer will inspect your car seat and make sure it is properly installed in your vehicle and can also set up appointments for new installations. A fire truck and several police vehicles will be on display. The park’s water cannon will provide relief if it gets too hot. National Night Out is a community-police partnership held the first Tuesday of every August since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada. These events aim to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, and other anti-crime efforts. This event is co-sponsored by Haverhill Police and the Haverhill Target Store.
