Haverhill man almost drowns trying to rescue teen in NH

The Eagle-Tribune

---- — HAVERHILL — A 36-year-old Haverhill man is recovering after he almost drowned trying to rescue a teen-aged boy who was pulled under water by strong currents in the Upper Falls of the Ammonoosuc River on Saturday.

A press release from the New Hampshire Game and Fish Department said Freddy Poisson of Haverhill heard the 15-year-old boy’s cries for help and jumped into the river, but was also overcome by the current.

The release said the boy was able to reach a rocky ledge and get out of the water, but Poisson “was pulled under water and remained submerged for approximately two minutes.”

Onlookers waded in and pulled him out of the water. Among them, Abriana Tasillo, an EMT, was able to resuscitate Poisson before rescue personnel arrived.

Poisson was taken to Littleton Regional Hospital for treatment, while the boy was not injured, the release said. A receptionist at the hospital yesterday said Poisson was a patient there but would not provide any information about his condition.
