NECC offers a day in the college classroom

---- — Northern Essex Community College will hold “College for a Day” on April 24 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St.

The event is an opportunity for prospective students to see all that NECC has to offer. Visitors can sit in on a real college class, take a tour of the campus, attend a financial aid session or enjoy Spring Jam – an outdoor spring celebration.

Staff from across the college will be available to answer questions about admissions, financial aid, transfer opportunities, career and supportive services. This event is free and open to the public.

Council on Aging ‘Lunch and Learn’

Dr. Richard Mugavero of HealthSource of Bradford will present a Lunch and Learn Workshop titled “Healthy to 100” on Monday, April 22 , from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St. Learn how people are living longer and with a better quality of life. Fun Run, Walk April 28

St. Joseph School of All Saints Parish will hold its fourth annual 5K Run and 1.5 mile Fun Run and Walk on April 28 at 12:30 p.m. beginning at the school, 56 Oak Terrace.

Choose your course: 5K looping the bridges over the Merrimack River or the 1.5 mile fun run and walk through downtown Haverhill. Free T-shirts to the first 200 registrants and free lunch for all participants.

Resident joins Easter Seals tech team

Kate Ahern of Haverhill has joined the staff of Easter Seals Massachusetts as a member of its nationally known assistive technology program. At Easter Seals, Ahern works in schools with children who have disabilities.

Well-known for her blog on teaching students with severe special needs, she also is in the process of creating an Easter Seals blog that focuses on more general uses of assistive technology.

Assistive Technology includes a wide range of technology and devices that provide equal opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to live, learn, work and play.

The Easter Seals Assistive Technology program is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Pentucket Bank promotions

Pentucket Bank announced that Amy Barcelos was promoted to Training Officer after being hired in 2011 as the Executive Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer.

Her responsibilities include assessing staff training needs and coordinating training bank-wide, as needed. Barcelos has over 15 years of banking experience and lives in Hampstead with her husband and three children.

Mary Ippolito was named Investment Officer and will be a registered investment representative for Infinex, Pentucket Bank’s parent investment company. Ippolito joined the Pentucket Bank team in 1999 as a part time teller and moved into various roles in the branches until settling in the Investment Department in 2004. Ippolito works in the Salem, N.H., office of Pentucket Bank and lives in Bradford with her husband and daughter.

Council on Aging iPad workshop

The Haverhill Council on Aging has arranged for a special workshop to be held at the Apple Store at the Mall at Rockingham Park in Salem, N.H., on Friday, April 26 at 8 a.m. Come to this hands-on workshop to discover the new iPad, its retina display and the new 5-megapixel iSight camera. Try using the dictation feature to write an email, send a text, or search the web. Get an overview of iOS 6, the foundation of iPad that includes new features like Notification Center and Newsstand. Discover the benefits of iCloud, and see how easy it is to sync content from iTunes. You can browse the App Store, learn to download books, make FaceTime calls and more.

Silver Hill to hold lottery

Silver Hill Horace Mann Charter School will hold a special lottery for grades 3 to 5 only on Friday, May 3 at 11 a.m. Applications are available at the school, 675 Washington St. All applications must be submitted to the school on or before April 30 in order to be included in the process. Jefferson Davis of Caldwell Banker Real Estate will lead a presentation on preparing to sell your home and downsizing on Thursday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. Davis is a seasoned realtor from Haverhill. Preparing to sell your home is difficult, and Davis will share his insights and offer ideas and suggestions based on his years of experience.
