Haverhill man wanted in multiple fraud cases

HAVERHILL - A city resident is being sought by police in Portsmouth, N.H., in connection with numerous fraud cases - including identity theft - in New Hampshire and Florida.

Robert A. Dematteo, 67, of 42 Allen St., has been a fugitive since 1998 from Florida on two counts of theft by deception, both felonies.

The Portsmouth Police Department has a warrant charging Dematteo with four counts of theft by deception and one count of theft.

There is a federal complaint issued out of the District of New Hampshire accusing Dematteo of unlawful use of a Social Security number. The New Hampshire Highway Patrol also has issued warrants for the arrest of Dematteo charging him with three counts of title fraud, all felonies; and three counts of tampering with public records and information, all misdemeanors.

Police said Dematteo may be found in the company of Marie Enkosky, 22, and their 3-year-old daughter. Police said Dematteo knows he is wanted and has been attempting to negotiate his surrender on his terms.

This investigation involves the joint efforts of state, local and federal authorities over a period of several months. Additional charges are also pending at this time.

Police have described Dematteo as being 5-foot 8-inches tall, weighing 175 pounds, white, with brown eyes, bald and wearing glasses.
