Students' murals to be unveiled at Haverhill KidsFest

Three colorful, outdoor paintings produced during the second phase of the Team Haverhill Mural Project will be unveiled at Sunday's KidsFest downtown.

Warren Gerety, co-chairman of the event, said unveiling the murals is a perfect activity to include in the day because children are involved in designing and creating the paintings, which are to be installed in a prominent downtown location.

To develop the murals, professional artist Susan Decker worked with 21 students in the after-school Discovery Club at the Nettle and Whittier middle schools. The students learned about famous people from Haverhill's past and translated what they learned into 7-foot images on wood panels.

Team Haverhill is an independent, nonpartisan, citizen action group dedicated to making Haverhill a better place to live, work and play.
