---- — HAVERHILL - The 49th annual VFW Santa Parade is set for Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1 p.m., and parade organizers are shifting into full gear to raise the $45,000 needed to pay for this year’s event. Family boosters and business boosters club letters are in the mail asking parade supporters to help raise the funds. In addition, the Santa Parade has a new and improved website that allows for direct contributions to be made through PayPal, and also contains applications and important parade information. NECC to host College Fair
Northern Essex Community College will once again host the New England Association of College Admission Counseling (NEACAC) Fair on Sunday, Oct. 20 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Sports and Fitness Center on the Haverhill campus, 100 Elliott St. Approximately 150 colleges and universities from around the country will be participating in this year’s fair. This event, which is free and open to the public, will be co-hosted by the Greater Newburyport College Night Association, consisting of the school districts of Amesbury, Georgetown, Newburyport, Pentucket, and Triton Regional Schools.

Methuen concert honors fallen heroes
METHUEN - A musical concert to honor fallen heroes and veterans will be held Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at Duperry Hall, St. Theresa Church, 22 Plymouth St.
Performers are Al Gagnon, Ed Murphy, Hoppy Curran, Ed Hayes and Tom Everson.
Coffee and desserts will be serve and there will be a 50/50 raffle.
Donations accepted and proceeds will benefit the Passion play, “All...I Have Done for You” and the Lawrence Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans.
Deadline loomingfor Haverhill High academy exams
Haverhill High School will hold placement exams for eighth-graders interested in one of the school’s academies on Saturday, Nov. 23 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The deadline to register is Friday, Oct. 18. This is the placement test for the high school’s STEM, Classical, eBiT and Humanities academies.

Rail Trail Mural dedication is Oct. 21
HAVERHILL - The public is invited to attend the grand opening for the Rail Trail mural on the back of Arthur Sharp’s Hardware. The ceremony will be at 4 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21. The mural is a service learning project of the Access 21 after-school program at Haverhill High School.
The Massachusetts Cultural Council helped fund this project and has invited State Sen. Kathleen O’Connor Ives, chair of the Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development Committee. Mayor James Fiorentini also plans to attend.
Library offers children’s programs
HAVERHILL - Stop by the Children’s room on Monday, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. for “Mixing in Math.” This workshop will teach you how to sprinkle a little math into your daily routine. This program is sponsored by the Department of Early Education and Care.
Rocks and Minerals, presented by local geologist Bill Hammond, will take place in the Children’s Program Room on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 3:45 p.m. Please register online.
