Drop-In Center celebrates 25 years

HAVERHILL — Community Action, Inc. will celebrate its Drop-In Center’s 25 years of service to the homeless tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St.

A meal will be provided, and guests, staff, and supporters will be honored. The public is invited.

For 25 years, the Drop-In Center has been helping Haverhill’s neediest people. Founded in 1988, the DIC provides a safe haven for people in the Haverhill area who live on the streets, in emergency overnight shelter, and in overcrowded, unsafe living environments – one step away from homelessness. It is a place where guests can be protected from the elements and receive a meal, free clothing, basic medical services, referral to HIV testing and counseling, linkage to public benefits, housing search assistance, comprehensive case management, companionship and support.

Community Action Inc., nearing its 50th year of existence, has striven from its beginnings to help the poor and to assist them in climbing out of poverty. The Drop-In Center is one of many departments working towards those goals. More information is available from Robert Gould at 978-373-1971, ext. 286.
