Family fun day supports animal rescue efforts

Bradford Girl Scout Troop 6809 will host a family fun day to support local animal rescue efforts on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Bradford Common.

Rain date is June 22. The troop is supporting Animal Rescue Merrimack Valley, Methuen MSPCA and One Tail at a Time Rescue.

These groups and their volunteers work to save animals from abuse, homelessness, cruelty and senseless euthanasia. Their efforts are costly and come solely from donations.

This event will include a drop-off spot for donations of pet supplies, pet food and gently used bedding; representatives from local rescue groups and local pet vendors; carnival games; dog training demonstrations; a pet shop; bake sale; exotic pets; free face painting; temporary tattoos; hair beading contests; raffles; and other activities.

Volunteers needed for SHINE program

The SHINE (Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders) program is looking for Haverhill residents to help Medicare beneficiaries in the community to understand the Medicare system.

You can become a SHINE counselor and help Medicare beneficiaries understand their Medicare benefits and options.

Learn how to simply explain Medicare and compare the costs and benefits of Medicare options. You will volunteer at the Citizens Center while providing an urgently needed and appreciated service to Haverhill residents.

Paranormal talk and ghost hunt is Saturday

Members of the Essex County Ghost Project will hold a paranormal talk and ghost hunt on Saturday at Hilldale Cemetery.

The gates open at 7:30 p.m. Cost of $10 per person supports the cemetery’s maintenance fund. Please bring cameras and other equipment. For more information or in the event of rain, contact Thomas Spitalere at 978-376-2807.

Golf clinic offered

The city’s Recreation Department and Council on Aging will offer a weekly adult golf clinic with Ted Murphy at Murphy’s Garrison Par 3 Golf Center, 660 Hilldale Ave.

Golf clubs will be provided. The clinic meets every Wednesday at 10 a.m. throughout the summer. Cost is $10 per week. Preregistration is not required. More information is available from Kathy Bresnahan or Rita LaBella at 978-374-2390.
