Haverhill High has sports night for freshmen Monday

Haverhill High School will host a fall sports information meeting for incoming freshmen on Monday at 6 p.m.

All incoming freshmen (current eighth graders) who are interested in participating in a fall sport should attend with a parent or guardian. Each fall sports team will hold individual team meetings this night. Coaches will review schedules, tryout information, team rules and other topics.

Museum to host photography exhibit

Black and white photographs taken of the interior and exterior of the Cogswell School building by several local artists will be on display at the Buttonwoods Museum from June 29 through July 19.

This exhibit is being presented by the Haverhill Community Arts and Education Foundation and the Buttonwoods Museum in partnership with the Cogswell Community Art Center Project. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

A reception is June 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. Visit online at www.haverhillhistory.org.

Diabetes workshop planned

The Diabetes Education Department at Pentucket Medical Associates will present a program titled Summer Care For Those With Diabetes on June 23 from noon to 4 p.m. on the fourth floor of Pentucket’s Haverhill office building, at 1 Park Way.

Summer can present particular challenges for those with diabetes, especially in regard to protection of the feet and eyes. Navigating through the temptations of unhealthy foods can be tricky amidst the limited diet options in places like the beach.

“The warm months should be a time for everyone to enjoy life,’’ said Joan Hultgren, a registered dietician with Pentucket Medical and coordinator of the group’s Diabetes Education Department. “This event will give our patients and their loved ones strategies for avoiding the real hazards to the eyes, feet and blood sugar levels while making the most of this beautiful season.’’
