---- — HAVERHILL — The Essex District Attorney's Office said that as of 1 p.m. today, it had not positively identified an adult female pedestrian who was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on Interstate 495 just before 9 a.m., and that the woman's next of kin had not been notified.

Carrie Kimball-Monahan, spokeswoman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said her office has not filed charges against the driver of the truck that struck the woman and does not plan to do so. She said an investigation into the fatality is being conducted by State Police detectives assigned to the District Attorney's Office as well as a State Police accident reconstruction team and Haverhill Police.

The incident happened on I-495 southbound near Exit 49. State Police shut down the left travel lane for a period of time and the traffic backed up for miles. Drivers who contacted The Eagle-Tribune reported that the woman was scantily dressed in some type of pajamas.
