Bradford Elementary School will hold a 5K road race, fitness walk, one-mile fun run and family festival on Sunday, Sept. 26 from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The start and finish line is at the Bradford Common. Registration opens at 10:30 a.m. The Fun Run for children is at 12:30 p.m.; the fitness walk is at 12:45 p.m. and the race is at 1 p.m. Official timing is provided by 5k Sports Race Management of Portland, Maine. Both the walk and race fee is $20 before Sept. 24, and $25 on the day of the event. The first 250 entrants receive T-shirts. Festivities are at the school, located at 118 Montvale Ave., and include raffles, live music, food, family entertainment and more. All proceeds benefit the Bradford Huskies cross country and track and field teams. You can register online at www.bradford5k.org.
Boys & Girls Club fall programs
The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill is now registering for its after school program, which begins Sept. 13. Sign up begins Sept. 6 at the club, located at 55 Emerson St. Programs include homework help, tutoring and reading, arts and crafts, photography, computers, basketball, floor hockey, sports and fitness challenges, Girl Scouts, card collecting club, music lessons, dance classes, cooking classes and more. The club has a fitness center, game room, computer room, teen center and kitchen. Membership is $45 for the school year, and includes bus transportation from all public schools in Haverhill. The club is open weekdays from 2:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During school vacation weeks, the club is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Health, fitness and fashion show planned
Merrimack Valley Hospital and Trinity EMS will host an open house and community fair on Saturday, Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the hospital, 140 Lincoln Ave. This year's theme is "Fall into Health, Fitness, Fashion and Fun. There is $50 fee for vendor participation with all proceeds going to Horizons for Homeless Children. The hospital is at 140 Lincoln Ave.
Trips planned
Bethany Homes is offering a day trip to the 41st annual Bourne Scallop Fest on Sept. 24.
There is a $5 entrance fee. Children under 12 enter free. Enjoy the famous scallop dinner for $19 or the herb roasted chicken dinner for $17.
The food court offers beer and wine, chowder, lobster rolls, raw bar, hotdogs, burgers and desserts. There will be a juried craft show, a home show, entertainment and midway of rides and games.
The Bethany bus will pick up people at the Bethany buildings at 8:30 a.m. and leave from Westgate Plaza at 9 a.m. The cost for transportation is $20, which is due at sign up.
Bethany and the city's Council on Aging will host a trip to Foxwoods Casino on Nov. 10. The Bethany bus will pick up people at Merrivista, 100 Water St. at 6 a.m. and depart Westgate Plaza at 6:45 a.m. The cost is $25 and includes transportation, lunch voucher and Keno play. Payment in full is due at sign up.
