A breast cancer benefit for a single mother of two who is losing her battle with breast cancer will be held on Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. in the Hartleb Technology Center on the Haverhill campus of Northern Essex Community College, 100 Elliott St.
Friends and relatives of Jeanette Cruz, 30, said Cruz has been battling cancer, but unfortunately her condition is worsening and she is losing her battle as the disease has spread to her lungs, causing difficulty breathing and severe chest pains. They said her doctor ordered her to limit her time working so that she can rest and spend time with her children, Genesis, 7, and Isaiah, 5, but without income and medical benefits due to working a part-time job, she is unable to do so.
This benefit is being held to raise funds so that Cruz can stay at home and be with her children without the burden of providing income for them on her own. Organizers of the event want to give Cruz the opportunity to make loving and lasting memories with her children. Any remaining proceeds from the event will go toward a college trust fund that was set up for her two children.
The benefit will feature food, a live band, dancing and entertainment as well as a raffle and silent auction. Jeanette Cruz is the niece of Ivette Hofmann, who works in the college’s bursar’s office. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by contacting Francie Hofmann at 617-485-7374, firstname.lastname@example.org, or Ivette Hofmann at 978-556-3913 or email@example.com.
