Night work planned on I-93 south in NH

---- — The New Hampshire Department of Transportation rescheduled pavement repair work on Interstate 93 south, just south of Exit 2 in Salem.

The work is now planned for tonight, between 6 and 9.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane in the area. The work is weather dependent.

Uniformed officers and traffic control devices will be used to help drivers through the work zone.

Candidates needed for Salem committees

SALEM — Selectmen are seeking candidates to serve in several appointed positions.

Candidates are needed for: Conservation Commission, two members; Council on Aging, three members; and the Historic District Commission, one member. The terms expire in April 2016.

Two members are also needed for the Recreation Advisory Committee. One term expires in November 2013, the other in November 2015.

Applications and copies of bylaws may be picked up at Town Hall, 33 Geremonty Drive, or printed from the town website, townofsalem.org. Applications must be submitted to the town manager’s office by 5 p.m. on March 20.

Interviews with the Board of Selectmen are tentatively scheduled for March 25 at 6 p.m.

Legacy of Leading event April 4

The agencies of Home Health Foundation will honor state Rep. Brian Dempsey and Rosanne DiStefano, executive director of Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, at the annual Legacy of Leading event April 4 at 5:30 p.m. at the Andover Country Club.

The event includes dinner and jazz entertainment by The George Farrell Group. Each year, the Legacy of Leading pays tribute to those in the community who show great support of the health and well-being of Greater Merrimack Valley communities, as well as a commitment to the mission of the agencies of Home Health Foundation.

Comic to performat mental wellness fundraiser March 23

LAWRENCE — The second annual mental wellness fundraiser for the National Alliance on Mental Illness is March 23 and features “A Comedy Cure All of Humor and Humanity” starring comic Jessica Kirson.

The show is at Salvatore’s Restaurant, 354 Merrimack St. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show is at 8:30 p.m. Kirson has appeared on “The Tonight Show,’’ “Comedy Central’’ and “Last Comic Standing.’’ Tickets are $20 each at the door or by email to amytee@comcast.net. St. Patrick’s Day party March 13

HAVERHILL — The city’s Council on Aging will hold its annual St. Patrick’s Day party for senior citizens Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at DiBurro’s function hall.

A corned beef and cabbage lunch will be served. Music is by disc jockey Daniel Ryan. The event also includes the presentation of the D. Raymond Taffe Award, given annually to a senior citizen who demonstrates exemplary community service. This year’s award recipient is Elaine Barker, founder and active member of Haverhill’s Brightside and owner of the Paper Potpourri company.

Taffe was an active member of the Council on Aging for more than 30 years, after taking part in its founding and serving as its chairman for 14 years. Tickets are still available to this event and are $10 for Haverhill residents and $15 for non-residents. Church to host Scottish clan service

Clan MacKenzie of the Northeast will have its The Kirkin of The Tartan Service and Celebration April 7th at 10 a.m. at Saint James Episcopal Church, 120 Main St., Amesbury.
