---- — GROVELAND — Voters will decide on Monday whether to increase the Board of Selectmen from three to five members — an issue that has been discussed by townspeople for years.
In Monday’s election, voters will also choose various town officials, including a selectman.
If the ballot question about the number of selectmen on the board passes, voters will choose one additional selectman for a two-year term and one additional selectman for a three-year term in the 2015 election.
This initiative to expand the Board of Selectmen was Article 17 at last year’s annual Town Meeting, where it was approved. The act was then approved by the state legislature and signed into law by the governor on Dec. 19, opening the door for it to appear on Monday’s ballot.
Selectman Donald Greaney decided not to seek reelection this year. That resulted in four candidates seeking his seat in Monday’s election.
They are: William Dunn, a local landscaper; Charles Haryslak, a volunteer at the library and on the Open Space and Trails Committee; Richard Sciacca, a former selectman and former town clerk; and Michael Wood, who serves as an alternate member of the Zoning Board.
Wood is also running for light commissioner, challenging incumbent Kenneth Rollins.
Polls in Town Hall at 183 Main St. will be open Monday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. The results of the election are expected to be posted sometime after the polls close.
