American Legion Post 34 and town officials will host its annual Memorial Day program starting with a parade from Pollard School, 120 Main St., to the Plaistow Cemetery on Elm Street at 9:45 a.m. The second part of the program will be held at Town Hall, 145 Main St., starting at 10:30 a.m. Several local leaders will offer remarks, including U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H. The program will then continue, and end, at Post 34, 176 Main St., at 11 a.m.
The parade, hosted by local veterans organizations, begins at 10 a.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery at 329 Main St. The procession continues to Veterans Memorial Park for the ceremony.
The parade lines up at 11:30 a.m. at Sandown Depot, north of Town Hall on Main Street. The procession begins at noon and continues south on Main Street, stopping briefly at the War Monument on the Town Hall lawn. Children are encouraged to leave flowers, small flags and other tokens of appreciation at the monument. The parade continues to Center Cemetery for the memorial service. Lt. Col. Kevin Major will speak. Veterans, local officials and members of organizations are encouraged to march in the parade. Anyone who wishes to participate should contact Major at 603-887-5442.
