Slick roads causing numerous accidents, school delays

METHUEN — A series of accidents has snarled the morning commute on major and minor roads this morning as overnight snow followed by early-morning freezing rain left roads slushy and slick.

No serious injuries have been reported with any of the accidents. Some schools in Southern New Hampshire are opening late.

On the Methuen/Haverhill line, a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate-495 near Route 213, blocking two lanes of traffic at around 7:20 a.m. State Police in Andover said the scene should be cleared by about 8:30 a.m.

There was a rollover on Route 125 in North Andover around 4 a.m., police said, but that accident has been cleared. There are numerous spinouts throughout town, however. Police said cars have slid off roads in several locations, hitting poles and trees, but that there are no serious injuries.

In Methuen, a woman backing out of her driveway collided with a Public Works truck at around 8 a.m.

Another accident was reported on I-495 South in Lowell, between Exits 38 and 37, with two lanes of traffic blocked.

At around 7 a.m., an accident was reported on Route 213 between the Route 28 and I-93 exits in Methuen.

Traffic is backed up for several miles on 495 South and North through North Andover, Methuen and Haverhill.

School was delayed by 1-1/2 hours in Hampstead, Pelham, Salem and Londonderry, all in New Hampshire.
