Fire station to host open house on Saturday


As part of the ceremony, DeCarlen will lay hands on every animal that attends, praying for the blessings of a long life, good health and a caring, happy home. The event is held in honor of the Feast of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals. Members of PAWS New England and Great Dog Rescue New England, organizations that foster and place dogs in loving homes, will be at this event, along with their dogs. Representatives from Therapy Dog Inc. along with their dogs will also attend, sharing their pet therapy activities during visits to nursing homes, hospitals, schools and any facilities where interactions with dogs would benefit people.

Bobby Bell Road Race Sunday

The 26th annual Bobby Bell 5-Mile Road Race/Walk will be Sunday, starting at the Lasting Room Grille on Washington Street.

The walk starts at 10:30 a.m. and the run starts at 11 a.m. Cost is $22 for pre-entry and $27 for post entry. Numerous awards will be handed out in various age, weight and specialty categories. The race benefits local scholarships, the Haverhill Police Auxiliary, Haverhill’s Brightside and the Andover Striders. Library events

are set for Friday

The public library will celebrate Mad Hatter Day and Star Wars Reads Day on Friday.

Mad Hatter Day is from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Cavalarro Room. Be silly by making your very own Mad Hatter hat. The event is for people 5 and older. Star War Reads Day is from 2 to 4 p.m. Activities include a character guessing game, movie trivia, costume contest, LEGO Star Wars and more. More information is available online at haverhillpl.org.

Heating Assistance Program talk Oct. 11

A representative from Community Action’s Heating Assistance Program will be at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St., on Oct. 11 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss the application process for this winter.
