Bridge repairs to cause traffic delays

HAVERHILL — The state will be making repairs to the Basiliere Bridge starting today, and drivers are being warned to expect delays.

Commercial 18-wheel trucks will not be allowed over the bridge while work is taking place. Signs indicating detours and alternate routes will be set up by the state.

According to police, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, or MassDOT, will work on the bridge from today to Friday. While work is taking place, travel across the bridge may be reduced at times to a single travel lane. Police will be stationed on the Haverhill and Bradford sides to direct traffic. Drivers are urged to seek alternate routes if possible. Emergency vehicles such as fire trucks will be allowed to cross the bridge as needed.
