Andover trails dedication ceremony set for April 27

ANDOVER — A dedication ceremony is being held at 2 p.m. on April 27 for the Vale Trail, the first completed segment of the Shawsheen River Greenway in Andover.

The ceremony actually includes hikes and a canoe trip. The first hike starts at the Central Street/Abbott Pond intersection at 12:30 and the second hike takes off from the Ballardvale Commuter Rail parking lot at 1 p.m. The speaking part of the ceremony starts at 2 p.m. It will be held in the northern end of the commuter rail parking lot.

There will also be a canoe trip offered after the event by the Shawsheen River Watershed Association.

The Vale Trail represents the first completed segment of the Shawsheen River Greenway in Andover. The dedication of the Vale Trail intends to promote three aspects of the trail’s importance: its recreational value to Andover for multiple use activity; the biological diversity along the length of the trail; and the role that AVIS has played in developing and maintaining the trail and managing the use of this greenway that serves as a model for other communities to consider.
