Two women arrested for prostitution on Vine Street

HAVERHILL — Police arrested two women on prostitution charges on Vine Street on Wednesday night.

One of the women, who became angry during the booking procedure, spat at Detective Gary Melanson and was additionally charged with assault and battery on a police officer, according to Deputy Chief Donald Thompson.

Ann Marie McKenney, 33, of 17 Vine St., and Wanda Bond, 45, of 19 Ford St., were both charged with offering sexual conduct for a fee. McKenney faces the additional charge of assault and battery on an officer.

Detective Sonny Greenwood was patrolling Vine Street in an unmarked car, according to Sgt. John Arahovites, Police Department spokesman, when the two women flagged him down.

After they allegedly offered him their favors for $100, Greenwood told them he needed to visit an ATM but would be right back. Greenwood was true to his word and returned a few minutes later, but instead of bearing cash, he was accompanied by Melanson and Patrol Officer Meaghan Minion.

The officers then made the arrests.
