Graffiti written on building

HAVERHILL — Vandals used a black marker pen to write on the back door of Charlie's Variety, police said.

An employee called police to the store at 277 Groveland St., about 8:04 p.m. Wednesday to report the damage.

She led police to the back door where the word "ASHE" was written in 4-inch letters about 6 inches across, on the door.

She told police she had gone out the rear door about 7 p.m. and the letters were not there, but when she went back out about 7:30 p.m. she saw the letters.

Police checked with a neighbor who told them she had not seen anything.
