Animal Kingdom Day at Winnekenni Castle Sunday

---- — Winnekenni Castle will host a free Animal Kingdom Day for children and families on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

The event will feature the McDonney Farm Petting Zoo and pony rides. Admission is free, but donations to the castle’s Wishing Well are appreciated. A craft fair and flea market will be held as well.

Labor Day concert at Winnekenni Castle

Winnekenni Castle will hold a free blues concert on the lawn on Monday, Labor Day, from 1 to 4 p.m. featuring the band “Rockspring.”

Admission is free. Lawn toys for children will be out on the grounds. Food and refreshments will be available. A craft fair and flea market will be held as well.

Trip to see ‘West Side Story’ planned

The Council on Aging is planning a trip to Ogunquit, Maine, on Sept. 15.

This trip includes a visit to Perkins Cove for shopping, lunch and a walk on the beautiful Marginal Way followed by a visit to the Ogunquit Playhouse for a 2 p.m. matinee performance of “West Side Story.”

Autumn harvest cooking class offered

Cooking classes that celebrate the flavors of autumn will be held on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, 115 Amesbury Line Road.

Participants will be taught professional cooking tips and techniques, while creating unique seasonal dishes using fresh foods from local farms. This adult cooking class includes instruction, recipes and a dinner at the end of the evening. There is a $60 class fee.
