Nighttime construction at Groveland Bridge under way

HAVERHILL — Beginning this past Sunday and continuing through mid-June, construction crews will be working during the overnight hours to complete roadway reconstruction activities on the Groveland approach to the new Bates Bridge that is under construction.

Crews will be working between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights.

The nighttime operations will be in addition to the regular daytime construction operations taking place Monday through Friday.

State transportation officials said that during the nighttime operations, there will be periods of time when police details will control the flow of one-way alternating traffic. At the conclusion of each night’s shift, two-way traffic will be restored, however, drivers may encounter a gravel roadway surface.

Appropriate signs, channelizing devices and traffic control measures will be used to guide drivers through the work zone.

Drivers should expect some delays and reduce speed and use caution when travelling through the work zone.

The work is part of a $49.8 million project to construct a new William H. Bates drawbridge over the Merrimack River.
