HAVERHILL — The ducks are coming.
An estimated 20,000 ducks will be dropped into the Merrimack River from the Basiliere Bridge on Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m. in the Rubber Duck Regatta 2010.
Each duck carries the number of the person who adopted it. Activities begin at 10 a.m.
This year's grand prize for the duck that crosses the finish line first is a 2010 Toyota Yaris donated by Rockingham Toyota. The 13th duck to cross has a chance of winning $1 million. Other prizes include Red Sox tickets, a week in Florida, and rounds of golf.
Ducks are available for $5 each, a Quack Pack of six is $25, a Quacker's Dozen of 13 ducks is $50, and a Paddling of 28 Ducks costs $100. More information about adopting ducks or volunteering to help with this fundraiser is available online at www.adoptaducktoday.com. This year's regatta is presented by the Haverhill Rotary Club. Major sponsors are Rockingham Motors of Salem, N.H., and The Eagle-Tribune. Proceeds support many local charities and nonprofit organizations.
